Children's Choir

Our singing Church of Tomorrow and Today

The SEAS Children’s Choir program is committed to fostering excellent musicianship, knowledgeable participation in the liturgy and an active prayer life.

The goal of the Children’s Choir program is to teach children the language of music and artistic expression within the context of a Catholic Christian community of faith. This includes active and regular participation in church liturgies. Participants in the Children’s Choir program are actively involved in the spiritual and liturgical life of the church. They serve as ministers of music at selected liturgies throughout the year.

As a member of the Choir, your child will...

• Learn about different types of singing voices
• Learn about singing with their head voice and chest voice
• Develop his or her vocal range
• Gain music theory knowledge and experience
• Learn how to apply correct vowel formation and diction in singing
• Be exposed to various styles of liturgical music
• Make new friends in a team-like, Christ-centered environment

The Children’s Choir rehearses every Monday afternoon from 5:15 until 6:15pm in the Church. It is expected that your child be present at scheduled rehearsals and liturgies in which they are to sing. Although it is completely understandable that circumstances will arise, such as a sickness, vacations, school functions, etc., that will prevent your child from attending, please know you are EXPECTED to contact the Music Office regarding their absence. You may call and/or send an email to the Music Office.

The Children’s Choir sings on the FIRST SUNDAY of the month from October through May at the 11:30 mass. Sunday morning warm-up begins at 11:00am. A reminder notice will be sent home with your child from the rehearsal before the liturgy in which the children are to sing. Additional liturgies or practices may be scheduled as needed during the season. Your child will receive a complete calendar of dates at the first rehearsal.

Children’s Choir members MUST wear appropriate Church attire when singing at Mass. Jeans, shorts, tennis shoes and sandals are NOT considered appropriate Church attire. We discourage the wearing of bracelets, necklaces and other accessories when the Choir sings, it tends to encourage unnecessary fidgeting and creates distractions.

Parental Involvement
Parents are a vital part of the Children’s Choir program. You are always welcome to observe rehearsals, but you are asked to be seated in the rear of the church and not be a distraction to the choir.

A parent must be present inside the church at the end of rehearsal for dismissal. If your child is attending Religious Education class after choir practice, they will be dismissed over to the school at the end of rehearsal.

Your child’s role in our parish music ministry does not require them to have a strong background in music. A love of music, the desire to praise the Lord in song and a COMMITMENT from you and your child are the key elements to a fruitful ministry.

If your child would like to be a member of our Children's Choir, please complete this form and return to the Music Director (Mr Persin) or the parish office.
